A book coach is someone trained to help authors achieve their goals: namely, begin or finish a book length manuscript. Some book coaches, like me, also aid authors in finding an agent and getting published. A book coach is someone who guides a writer through to achieving their goals.

Typically during a book coaching session we set up a schedule where you send me pages and then  a week or two later we meet up to talk about them. We can also go over any problems you’re having, we might pull a tarot card, or take a look at the astrology. I might suggest shadow work. I tailor my book coaching to the individual. So, often, a book coaching session is a co-creation between myself and the person I’m working with (tailored to their individual needs). 

One of the first questions I might ask you, before we work together, is what are you looking for? What kind of help do you need? Then I’ll tailor my book coaching to your needs.

Yes! I can do a developmental edit on your entire manuscript to get it agent and publication ready. I will give you my honest advice on what is working and what isn’t in your manuscript. 

That package is cost dependent on pages, but generally the price is around $1500-2000 and it may take up to 3 months to complete. I can also do a developmental edit on the first 50 pages of your book for $199. The “first 50 pages” offer is best for those who want to know if they’re on the right track, and don’t yet need the entire manuscript developmentally edited. 

If you are ready to send your pages out to agents and/or indie publishers, I can help! Together, you and I create a query letter, a synopsis of your manuscript, and a list of agents or publishers to send your manuscript to. I will also pay particular attention to the first five pages of your manuscript, as those are the most important ones. I may take a look at your entire manuscript and suggest a few smaller edits to get it ready. This option can be fairly time intensive as we’ll likely have to rework your query letter and synopsis a few times. Put aside at least 3 months for this. 

That depends on what you’re interested in, but in general, on the lower end I charge $125 a month upwards of $400 a month. For individual coaching, the price is $250 if we meet monthly and you turn in pages monthly. If you need more time to turn in pages, we can do bi-monthly, and that would be $125 a month. For the “get published” package, it’s around $300 a month. And for a full on developmental edit the price ranges from $1500-$2100 (for books around 50000-70000 words, respectively). 

For those unsure about book coaching, I offer the mini blueprint ($199), for those who want to begin their novel, or I can do a 50 page developmental edit ($199). 

I believe that stories can change our reality, so my overarching goal is to aid those who write fiction books infused with subversive ideas. Some examples of that might be a book that features a matriarchal society or a society based on mutual aid, queer aliens, or Indigenous cultures actively engaged in decolonization. Often I work with people whose work has a fantastical element infused with social justice issues. In terms of genre, I’m open to writers who write fantasy, speculative fiction, sci fi (á la Ursula K. LeGuin or Octavia Butler), magical realism, and horror. My taste runs closer to upmarket fiction and literary fiction, and I like weird! Overall, I work with those whose work I like and I believe in.
